Kathlene Oliver has been appointed chief executive of the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board. Ms Oliver joins the board from the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage, where she serves as assistant director general. Trained as a geophysicist, she has held various roles in the private and public sectors including for the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety and CGG Ground Geophysics Australia.

Nicholas Egan will be a judge of the District Court of Western Australia. Mr Egan joined the State Solicitor’s Office in 2005, before being promoted to deputy state solicitor in 2010 and state solicitor in 2017. He was awarded a Public Service Medal in 2021 and named on the Commonwealth COVID-19 Honour Roll for his work during the pandemic. He replaces Timothy Sharp, who is retiring from the court.

Barking Gecko Theatre has welcomed three new board members: Trish Hill-Wall, Christina Davies and Tony Chong. Ms Hill-Wall is a Noongar woman who developed the first Aboriginal Clinical Mental Health Practitioner degree at Curtin University. Dr Davies, a senior research fellow at the University of Western Australia, focuses her research on arts health, health promotion and mental wellbeing. Mr Chong is corporate partner, head of the Asia desk Australia and managing partner of the Perth office of Squire Patton Boggs.

Engineers Australia has recruited Romilly Madew as its new chief executive. Previously, Ms Madew led Infrastructure Australia since 2019. She also worked as the chief executive of Green Building Council of Australia for 13 years. She holds several board positions including being a member of Placemaking NSW Advisory Committee and Independent chair of the Currawong State Park Advisory Board (NSW).

Sam Smith is joining Breaker Resources as chief operating officer. Most recently, Mr Smith worked as general manager of growth at Macmahon where he was responsible for managing teams to tender and plan for large projects. Prior to this, he worked at Global Surface Mining and Swick Mining Services in business development.

Colliers has appointed Yashwini Halai as manager of research in its Perth office. Ms Halai joins the organisation from Urbis, where she worked as a consultant and a research analyst.
