The state government has made $12.5 million available in sport-related grants to improve playing fields and club amenities.

The latest round of funding under the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) program is aimed at encouraging more participation in sport and recreational activities through the development of basic infrastructure.

As of Tuesday, community groups and local government authorities can apply for grants towards a number of projects including the development of new playing surfaces, upgrades to changerooms and club amenities, and new sports storage facilities.

The state government has set aside $4 million in grants for projects that encourage gender inclusivity, such as unisex changerooms.

Applications close on September 30.

"Grassroots sport and recreation is vital in bringing communities together in both building a sense of community as well as ensuring people are staying fit and active,” Sport and Recreation Minister Tony Buti said.

Meanwhile, applications under the new Club Night Lights Program (CNLP) have opened.

The state government will invest $10 million in the program across the next four years to develop sports floodlighting infrastructure.

Both the CSRFF and CNLP programs are administered by the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries.
