MEDIA and Events Australia, which earlier this year bought the expo businesses of failed media company Consolidated Business Media, has registered a new business name, Web Corporate.
But according to Media and Events managing director Gregory Millar, there is no new business activity to discuss.
“It’s just an idea. It’s just a name that was free and available, so I grabbed it,” Mr Miller said, adding that he may do something with it further down the track.
CBM operated a web development company, Webfirm, before selling it earlier this year.
CBM went into administration in August owing creditors more than $5 million. CBM managing director John Webb has since filed for bankruptcy.
A committee of CBM creditors is currently deciding whether to fund a public examination into the company.
CBM and Mr Webb are also embroiled in a legal battle with expo competitor Exibit Exhibitions and Publishing.
One claim relates to timing of CBM’s reentry into the expo market. Webfirm’s new proprietor, Norman Asch, said the sale deal included a clause prohibiting CBM from entering the web business for three years.
