MEDIA Release Productions and Highway 1 have formed an alliance to offer live video streaming on the Internet, allowing special events in Perth to be seen live around the world.
MRP is an established video production house while Highway 1 is an application service provider that also offers web development and application hosting solutions.
The companies launched their Internet streaming service with a live, multi-camera telecast of Partnership 21, the springboard for the WA Tourism Commission’s eco-tourism plan for 2001-2005.
MRP recently built a television outside broadcast truck facility. Formats available include Sony Betacam SP, Sony Digital DV Cam and VHS.
MRP’s Geoff Waldock said events could be seen live on any commercial television station (subject to negotiation), Channel 31 or Westlink, a government-based satellite service for regional telecentres around WA.
“An important point is that we don’t hold copyright to the production,” Mr Waldock said.
“This is important for small business, as it means they can duplicate at will for any purpose.
“Rather than just videoing an event and playing it over big screens on the day, businesses can use the same multi-camera footage for live telecasts over the Internet or on TV, and they can pick out highlights and compile a CD-ROM to send out.
“Traditionally, the WA corporate market hasn’t been well serviced in this respect, but we are staying local and don’t overprice.”
