Advertised job vacancies drop

The ANZ Bank’s count of national job vacancies advertised in newspapers fell by 8 per cent between October and November. Although recent data have to some extent been influenced by the Olympics, a clear deteriorating trend is now evident, with the number of advertised vacancies down 22 per cent in the past year, and 24 per cent since its May peak. The number of jobs advertised on the internet also fell.

WA’s monthly decline in advertised vacancies between October and November was only 1.2%, but through the year the fall (21.4%) was close to the national average. WA’s vacancies in November 2000 were at their lowest level since November 1997.
