Adanteering wins $2.5m Bunbury contract

West Perth-based Advanteering - Civil Engineers has been awarded a $2.5 million contract as part of the state government’s upgrade of the Jetty Road causeway in Bunbury.

Under the contract, Advanteering will place about 24,000 tonnes of rock in the water at Casuarina Boat Harbour using a specialised long reach excavator to improve protection during storm events.

Rock will be placed in layers over several months where the seabed is soft to maximise strength, and it is anticipated this phase of work will be completed by mid-2019.

Another contract for the second phase of the upgrade is expected to be awarded in early 2019, with on-site work anticipated to commence in mid-2019.

The project is worth $10.8 million.

Meanwhile, concept planning for the stage two foreshore development along Casuarina Drive has now started and a community survey is being launched today.

The redevelopment will include better parking at BP Beach, improved pedestrian and cycle links, enhanced landscaping and new spaces for recreational use with protection from coastal hazards.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the upgrade was a significant first step towards addressing demand for local boating infrastructure and services.

"This work will support a major future expansion in boat pens off the causeway itself, which is currently being planned for the next stage of the TBW project,” she said.

"To help drive inspiration and design of the new waterfront precinct, the Bunbury community is invited to give feedback via an online survey to ensure transformation of the precinct is community driven."
