SOTICO managing director Ron Adams has won the Premier’s Award at the Timber Industry Awards.
Forestry Minister Kim Chance said Mr Adams had taken an energetic and enthusiastic view to bring about regional development and resource security for local manufacturers and their international and national clients as well as developing partnerships with furniture manufacturers – all at a time when there was a major restructure in the industry.
The Timber Industry Awards were introduced last year and acknowledge and reward those who have made a major contribution to the industry.
About 50 nominations were received for the nine categories of the awards.
Forest Products Commission environmental management systems’ Carol Dymond won the Excellence in Forest Management Award.
Timbercorp’s James Bulinski and Ross Alexander won the Excellence in Plantation Establishment and Management prize.
Mt Romance took home the Excellence in Innovative Use of Native Hardwood and Plantation Timber trophy. It also claimed the Excellence in Marketing initiative category.
Australis Pty Ltd won the Excellence in Processing Production and Process Initiative for High Volume Manufactured Furniture award.
Kevin Bird won the Outstanding Creative Art Piece prize.
Nigel Westbrook won the Excellence in Engineering and Architectural Design and Architectural Joinery award.
Peter Gunson was recognised for Outstanding contribution to the community.
Mr Adams and Whittakers Timber Products’ Trevor Richardson were recognised for outstanding contribution to industry.
