The Department of Consumer and Employment Protection is hosting a seminar on strategies to attract and retain women workers, July 24 at the Kings Park Function Centre. Issues to be discussed regarding skilled labour shortages include: international best practice for improving pay equity, specific pay equity strategies for female dominated industries, and strategies to attract and retain women workers in male dominated industries. Speakers: Michelle Roberts – Minister for Employment Protection; Phillipa Hall – director, pay and employment equity unit, Department of Labour (New Zealand); and Miriam Lyons-Stanborough – business system manager with Alcoa Australia and member of the Women in Mining Network, Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
