ASEAN FTA restarted

FREE Trade Agreement negotiations between Australia, the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and New Zealand resumed this week, with ASEAN blocking Australia’s push to include government contracts, intellectual property and competition policy in discussions. An FTA with ASEAN members has been estimated by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to deliver about $19 billion for the Australian economy in the next 14 years. The negotiations began last February and are expected to take two years to complete.
