The Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association has appointed former Committee for Economic Development of Australia boss David Byers as its new chief executive.
Mr Byers has spent the majority of his career in oil and gas; initially with Woodside Petroleum and later in senior management roles with Mobil and ExxonMobil in Australia and overseas.
Mr Byers is also a former chief executive of CEDA.
He will succeed current chief executive Belinda Robinson.
APPEA chairman Eric Streitberg said the Mr Byers’ industry experience would ensure the association continued to provide value to its members.
“The industry faces many challenges in the coming years as it works to ensure safe and reliable supplies of energy to the community, and in particular the supplies of natural gas which are a key to helping reduce carbon emissions, and we are confident David will provide strong and effective leadership of APPEA and advocacy for the industry,” Mr Streitberg said.
