AEG Ogden to manage Perth Arena

AEG Ogden has been announced as the 'preferred respondent' to manage Perth Arena ahead of competition from companies including Spotless Group.

The new state-of-the-art facility is expected to be opened in 2012.

Sport and Recreation Minister, Terry Waldron said it was essential the venue be operated by a world class operator with the skills and network to attract the national and international events West Australians deserved.

AEG Ogden was formed in December 2007 when American entertainment company AEG took a chunk of Brisbane based Ogden.

Locally, AEG Ogden runs Perth Theatre Trust Venues including His Majesty's Theatre, Perth Concert Hall, Playhouse Theatre, Subiaco Arts Centre.

It is also expected to run the State Theatre Centre when it opens.

"AEG Ogden is one of the leading sports and entertainment companies in the world, specialising in venue ownership and management of venues such as the O2 Arena, London; Staples Centre, Los Angeles; Acer Arena, Sydney; and Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane," Mr Waldron said.

"AEG is responsible for the management of venues in the Asia Pacific region, including a network of arenas; stadiums; convention and exhibition centres; and performing arts theatres in Australia, China, Malaysia and Qatar."

The company also owns AEG LIVE, a leading concert promoter, developing and promoting current concert tours including Celine Dion and Justin Timberlake.

International promoter Luke Hede from Live Nation has welcomed the appointment.

"We are delighted to see a major event organisation like AEG Ogden managing Perth Arena and we expect to be working with them to secure major national and international acts into the venue as soon as it opens," Mr Hede said.

In September last year, Spotless Group and SMG, the world's largest venue management Group, were shortlisted to operate Perth Arena.

Spotless has been the venue and operator of the Perth Exhibition and Convention Centre since it opened in 2004.

VenuesWest Chairman Graham Partridge said his organisation was delighted at the Government's decision to award 'preferred respondent' status to AEG Ogden.
