AECOM to assess Kimberley LNG hub

Global consultancy firm AECOM has been contracted to carry out environmental impact assessment of the liquefied natural gas hub at James Price Point.

Global technical and professional services consultancy firm, AECOM, has been contracted to undertake a strategic environmental assessment to evaluate the impact of developing a liquefied natural gas (LNG) precinct at James Price Point.

The environmental assessment is an important process in ensuring any development preserves the natural surrounds and social characteristics of the Kimberley region.

Western Australia's Department of State Development has engaged AECOM to examine environmental social and economical aspects of a LNG precinct in line with both the Commonwealth's Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) and the State's Environmental Protection ACT (WA) .

AECOM's Regional Director for Western Australia, Craig Bloxham, said the contract recognised the company's global and local capabilities and strong track record in this important area of environmental assessments.

"Examples of previous major infrastructure environment assessments nationally include channel deepening works, desalination plants and port expansions.

AECOM is also the name behind the design of major projects in Western Australia including Roe Highway Extension, the 6-star Durack II office complex at 2, Victoria Avenue and the Perth to Mandurah Railway.

"As planners, engineers, scientist and advisors on large-scale projects, we recognise our responsibility to enhance and sustain the world's built, natural and social environments. Therefore, AECOM understands that sustainable solutions take into account environmental, social and business needs", Mr Bloxham said.

AECOM has teamed with Strategen and a select number of West Australian LNG technical specialists to undertake the environmental assessment.

The environmental assessment is expected to be delivered to the State Government by Christmas.
