ADCO books construction contract

Perth-based ADCO Constructions has secured a $28.7 million contract to build Ruah Community Services’ new centre in Northbridge.

The Ruah Centre for Women and Children is a seven-storey development providing accommodation and support services for people in need.

Ruah currently operates its single-storey outreach centre, for people experiencing homelessness, on the Northbridge site.

Following the City of Perth Local Development Assessment Panel approval of the women and children facility on the site, the outreach centre building will be demolished next month.

Ruah applied to relocate its outreach service to a building on James Street but the proposal was knocked back by City of Perth.

In June, planning minister Rita Saffioti stepped in to assess Ruah’s proposal to relocate.

The ground floor slab for the new women and children centre is expected to be laid before Christmas.

Ruah Community Services chief executive Debra Zanella said ADCO’s proposal demonstrated a strong alignment with the charity’s values.

“Ruah has always taken ‘bold strides’ in addressing our community’s most vexing social issues and this project is our most ambitious yet,” she said.

“We are very proud to be partnering with an Australian, family-owned business with a commitment to excellence in construction for more than 50 years, and we are enormously confident in ADCO’s capacity to bring this exceptional building to life.”

ADCO WA manager James Prattent said the company was thrilled to build the important community project.
