ABC rules in quality stakes

IN TERMS of quality, ABC television programs are twice as good as their commercial rivals, according to an independent survey by Newspoll.

The survey revealed 87 per cent of respondents viewed ABC programs as being of a high standard, while only 43 per cent said commercial stations offered quality programs.

ABC Radio was also viewed favourably, with 90 per cent of respondents saying it was good or very good compared to 68 per cent for the commercials.

Moreover, 92.3 per cent of respondents said the ABC was valuable to the community with around 85 per cent approving of the ABC’s coverage of regional news and issues.
