A profitable partnership

PAT Pinder has bid farewell to his architectural firm, Sandover Pinder Pty Ltd.

With friend and business partner Grayam Sandover, Mr Pinder has built up the Perth-based practice to the point where it is now winning contracts with multinational companies.

The partnership between the two men and their practices, Pinder Architects and Sandover Architects, became substantial when the firms merged to form Sandover Pinder Pty Ltd in 1994.

The firm has been involved with projects such as the Melbourne Aquarium and the Hale School Music and Drama Centre, and is set to begin work on the Old Perth Port Hotel.

In his farewell speech to Mr Pinder at a Royal Perth Yacht club function, Mr Sandover said “it takes two to replace Pat” and announced the firm had taken on two new partners, who will join Bob Murray and Michael Henderson at the helm of the firm.

While the new partners, Peter Giangiulio and David Karotkin, have experienced shoes to fill, their backgrounds should give them a head start.

Mr Giangiulio graduated from Curtin University in 1987 and joined Grayam Sandover in his practice the following year. He was the project architect for a wide variety of projects in Perth, regional WA and Asia, including the Nanjing Under-water World project in China, the Joe Lord Drill Core Library Complex in Kalgoorlie and the Deep Space Ground Station for the European Space Agency located near New Norcia.

Mr Karotkin, also a graduate from Curtin University, joined Sandover Pinder in 1995 and has been project architect for the Hale School Music & Drama Centre in Wembley Downs, the Busselton Justice & Police Complex, as well as on the major extensions to Karratha, Kalgoorlie, and Port Hedland airports.

He also has worked as an architect in the United Kingdom, Israel and Australia and has travelled and worked in the USA, Europe and Asia.
