40under40 2003: Carmelo Princiotto

From beginnings as a one-man operation in 1992, Carmelo Princiotto has built his business, Jamel Industries, into one of WA’s largest domestic furniture manufacturers, specialising in hardwoods such as jarrah and marri.  Despite threats posed by cheaper imports, Jamel Industries has been growing on average 30 per cent a year, employs 50 staff and has a million dollar turnover. High points for Mr Princiotto have been the successful development of a market for feature grade hardwood furniture, and market recognition from Furnitex, the largest furniture exhibition in Australia.
