Dawson’s Garden World
DAWSON’S Garden World is a grower and retailer of plants in the Perth metropolitan area. It emerged in 1903 from a partnership between George Dawson and Edward Harrison, who established their first production nursery in Belmont and delivered plants all around Perth by horse and cart.
A century later Ian Dawson, grandson of George Dawson, owns and manages the garden centre business, which has grown to include a production nursery in Forrestfield, four retail centres in Forrestfield, Swanbourne, Joondalup and O’Connor, and employs 50 full-time staff.
FORMED nearly 80 years ago, Baileys Fertilisers manufactures and distributes horticulture products that service the turf, nursery, forestry and domestic markets in WA.
Baileys was the first West Australian potting mix and mulch supplier to receive national accreditation through the Nursery Industry Accreditation Scheme of Australia in 2002.
THE company that evolved into Galvin Engineering was established in 1930 and came under the total control of Roy Galvin in 1967.
It has come a long way since then and, under the management of Roy’s grandsons Chris and Paul, has offices throughout Australia.
Galvin Engineering specialises in manufacturing solutions to the plumbing, mining and engineering industry. It exports products overseas and turned over $8.6 million last year.
Associated Opticians Co
WILLIAM Joseph Fist, who became known as ‘Mr Fist the optometrist’, established associated Opticans Co in 1897. His grandson, Graham, now operates the business.
Associated Opticians caters to diabetic eyesight problems, remote and rural eye problems, child learning difficulties, and post-surgical eye care.
