About 1,500 housing lots will be developed under a deal between the Department of Communities and LWP Property Group announced today, in Casuarina, Forrestdale and Treeby.

The state government said the deal was valued at around $350 million, with 94 hectares of land to be developed for affordable housing.

The deal follows recent collaboration projects with private developers in Amble Estate, Girrawheen and in the Swan Valley.

The department and the developer will jointly oversee the project.

Treeby and Forrestdale are suburbs located near Piara Waters, while Casuarina is in the City of Kwinana.

It was unclear at the time of writing if the housing will be part of the state government’s social housing portfolio, with a press release saying it will cater to varied market segments.

"This partnership will showcase the many positive possibilities when government and the private sector work together to create communities that evolve to meet changing needs” Communities Minister Peter Tinley said in a release today.

"Although each project will have a unique flavour, these developments will provide an ongoing supply of affordable housing land in the south metropolitan area, with appropriate access to transport, employment and education opportunities.

"This agreement will bring much-needed diversity and choice to the south metropolitan area and support the McGowan government in achieving a number of its key strategic affordable housing outcomes for people on low-to-moderate incomes under this agreement.

"The McGowan government will continue to work with the private sector to increase the supply of new housing, with a firm focus on the affordable end of the market."

Ellenbrook-based LWP is third on the BNiQ Search Engine list of land developers.

Brendan Acott stepped into the shoes of managing director in July, as founder Danny Murphy became executive chair.
