THE Rising Stars awards recognise Western Australian businesses that have achieved rapid growth and developed strategies to sustain their growth.
The top business this year was Velocious, a specialist provider of sub-sea products and services to the offshore oil and gas industry.
Other winners come from a wide range of industries, and include employment and training firm Skill Hire and recruitment business Marble Group.
Construction contractor Ocean to Outback Contracting specialises in the installation of mining camps, while renewable energy company Sun Connect is one of the leading solar power ‘retailers’ in Australia.
Hospitality business Croissant Express is also a winner, as it seeks to expand its network of stores through franchising.
The other winners comprise gourmet hamburger business Jus Burgers, Australian Pressure Testing Services, Oceanic Medical Imaging and Addwealth.
This year’s winners were selected by a judging panel made up of representatives from the eight major sponsors: WA Business News along with Banksia Capital; Bankwest; Integral Development; Manso Consulting; PwC; Star 3 Media; and Starlight Children’s Foundation.
All of the entrants submitted data on their turnover, net profit and staffing over a period of four financial years and were also required to explain their growth strategy. A judging panel interviewed the top entrants, with Velocious selected as the number one Rising Star out of that process.
