$2 million for airport upgrades
SUBMISSIONS have opened for Regional Airports Development Scheme funding.
The scheme funds up to 50 per cent of the cost of airport projects to either develop airport infrastructure or enhance airport planning in regional areas.
The Western Australian Government is contributing $2 million towards the scheme over the next 12 months.
The original scheme was scheduled to expire in 2001 but was extended by the Government and , since then, $6 million has been put into developing about 90 airport projects across WA.
Those ranged from large regional jet ports such as Newman to tiny airstrips servicing remote Aboriginal communities such as Kunawarritji along the Canning Stock Route.
Submissions close on March 19.
