Humfrey Land Developments is formulating plans to produce an "iconic" building for the Geraldton foreshore, after it was announced as the winning bidder for an 8,800 square metre site formerly owned by the Public Transport Authority.
Humfrey Land Developments chief executive, Barry Humfrey said the eight-storey $100 million tower would be the biggest single development in Geraldton's history.
Mr Humfrey said architects from CHRISTOU Design Group were currently working on plans to develop three concepts to take to the City of Geraldton Greenough's planning committee.
"We are absolutely adamant that we will work with the City of Geraldton to make sure we cater for what they see the requirements are going forward," Mr Humfrey said.
"The council and the city of Geraldton believe it's an iconic site, and it needs an iconic building, to the extent that it becomes a destination, not just a shopping centre or a residential complex or anything else."
"Our preference would be to have a really good mixed use development, from commercial, to shopping and hospitality and retail, the whole bit."
The PTA site project is expected to complement a $15 million shopping centre joint venture Humfrey has entered into with Woolworths, which will be located a short way down Geraldton's Marine Terrace from the PTA site.
The state government and the City of Geraldton have been advancing foreshore redevelopment plans in Geraldton since 2004.
