Irish immigrant, Martina Crowley, decided to take control of her own future after her “great [West] Australian dream” suffered a setback when her then employer, global accounting firm Arthur Anderson collapsed in 2002. As result Ms Crowley, a senior accountant in the WA taxation division at the time, struck out on her own. “The feeling of my future being determined by the actions of others was not acceptable to me,” Ms Crowley said. Together with fellow Arthur Anderson colleague, Keith Johns, she co-founded boutique tax and business advisory firm KD Johns & Co. A top performing student in Ireland, Ms Crowley has gone on to become a member of the Institute of Certified public accountants, completed her Tax Masters as well as presented professional and motivational seminars. Now a mother of two as well as a director of a successful business, Ms Crowley also puts her skills to use within the community and encourages women to remain in the workforce. Currently she is the treasurer of her local child care centre and has also worked with other charities including St John of God Light and the Starlight Foundation.
