John Lester graduated from Oxford University with a degree in natural science before joining London stockbrokers Joseph Sebag and Co where he was trained as a mining analyst. He joined Jardine Fleming and Co in Hong Kong and became a member of the board. Mr Lester spent several years as a stockbroker and corporate financier in Sydney and later managed a mining company in Indonesia.
