Andy Freeman is one of Australia’s leading hospitality professionals.
The Sneakers & Jeans portfolio boasts five of Perth’s most exciting, original and award winning venues and will soon expand to include a inner city brewery. With 20+ years in the industry, Andy is now one of the most awarded and recognised Perth hospitality professionals for his advocacy of the local F&B scenes and the revitalisation of the Perth CBD.
After a variety of roles at popular WA venues, where he became skilled in management and bartending, Andy moved to London and was employed at Marco Pierre White’s internationally famous Titanic Bar. Here, under Andy’s management, the venue was voted No 1 Bar in London.
After his return to Perth, Andy worked at C Lounge Restaurant and Bar and Luxe Bar - both venues winning national awards under his stewardship. His aptitude for event management resulted in Andy being approached to coordinate and manage high profile events such as the Big Day Out, the Lion Nathan Roadshow, Johnny Walker Classic, Good Vibrations and the WA launch of Bacardi Black.
In 2007 Andy bought his first venue, Luxe Bar, taking it to new levels of success. He then opened the neighbouring venue BamBOO; a outdoor amphitheatre for holding live performances. In 2013 Andy launched Perth’s first American Whiskey Bar, Varnish on King. The basement bar/restaurant boasts over 200 American whiskeys and has rocked the foundation of the hospitality industry. The venue has won Small Bar of the Year 2014 (nationally) and Bar of the Year (State) at the annual Australian Bartender Magazine awards. In 2015 Varnish won the title of Best Bar Food (nationally) and was inducted into the AHAH all of Fame after winning Small bar of the year three years running.
In July of 2014 Andy opened Perth’s first true Asians upper club, Darlings Supper Club. Soon after he jumped on the opportunity to launch another Perth icon, The Flour Factory. Formerly an old Flour Mill, this venue sits in the centre of Perth’s CBD and showcases three levels with a rooftop bar, The Sherry function space and a ground floor Long Bar area with basement kitchen.
Following the success founded in the CBD’s west end, in 2017 Andy opened the city’s first late night Tequila and Mexican Cantina, Caballitos. The venue showcases over 200 tequilas and mezcals. In May of 2018 Andy opened the city’s first Middle-Eastern inspired venue Hadiqa. Developed within the Hibernian Place precinct, it’s a tavern with a rooftop bar.
Later that year Andy opened Perth's first Japanese whisky bar Goody Two’s with former Olympian Eamon Sullivan and renowned chef Scott Bridger. His next venture...launching Pirate Life Perth in late 2021. This venture will be an uppercut to the Perth hospitality scene delivering a venue like nothing else the Perth CBD has seen before!
