The Karara project is located 200km east of Geraldton and consists of a substantial, long-life, magnetite concentrate operation plus a smaller-scale hematite operation. First magnetite was shipped from Geraldton on the first day of 2013.
Karara was established in 2007 through a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and Anshan Iron and Steel Group Corporation. Ansteel seized full control of Karara when it bought out its joint venture partner in 2021.
