Russell Gibbs has been a driving force at Hawaiian for nearly three decades, joining the organisation in 1996 and stepping into the role of Director and Chair of the Hawaiian Operating Board in 2000. Russell also serves on the Wen Family Advisory Council, overseeing the Wen Australia office and contributing to the group’s global investment and philanthropic strategy.
His leadership has shaped Hawaiian into one of Western Australia’s most community‑minded businesses, grounded in long‑term partnerships, purposeful investment and a commitment to social impact.
With extensive experience spanning business strategy, property management and philanthropy, Russell brings a deep understanding of how organisations can influence positive change.
His passion for youth mental health has been a defining thread throughout his career. He has been a long‑standing supporter of Youth Focus, serving on its Board from 2004 to 2011, including three years as Deputy Chair, rejoining the Board in 2025.
Under Russell’s leadership, the Hawaiian Ride for Youth was established and has grown into one of Australia’s most significant philanthropic cycling events, with Hawaiian proudly serving as Naming Rights Sponsor since the inaugural event.
Beyond his work with Youth Focus, Russell has held senior board and committee roles across the property, tourism, education, arts and not‑for‑profit sectors.
His leadership continues to reflect Hawaiian’s broader mission: to nurture thriving, connected communities and to contribute meaningfully to Western Australia’s social and economic wellbeing.
