Whittens awarded for Roy Hill work

Perth based civil and concrete construction company Whittens has been awarded a certificate of excellence for construction of ROM walls at the Roy Hill iron ore project in the Pilbara.

Whittens accepted the award last Friday night at the annual Concrete Institute of Australia Awards, rounding out what has been a successful year for the company.

Chief executive Phil Alcock said that while it has been a very tough year for many of their competitors, Whittens had experienced significant growth with its workforce increasing from 150 people on the ground to 550 personnel on the

Roy Hill Project and on a number of oil/gas projects and mining sites around Australia on the back of the strong focus on safety, quality and productivity.

“We are currently managing seven projects with an estimated value of more than $156M Australia wide, and have picked up two more contracts recently with another two due to be signed off in the New Year,” he said.

Whittens was awarded the $25 million contract in June.
