Mt Barker winery West Cape Howe Wines was named best value winery of the year at last night’s Halliday Wine Companion Awards.

The award was one of the six major prizes of the event, which was held to coincide with the launch of the 2016 edition of the Halliday Wine Companion.

Western Australian wineries also won in three of the 10 varietal categories.

Deep Woods Estate in Yallingup garnered the best chardonnay award for its 2013 reserve vintage.

The 2011 vintage of 9th Chamber Cabernet produced by Devil’s Lair won best cabernet sauvignon.

Cullen Wines won in the 'other reds' section with its 2013 Diana Madeline blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc.
