Osborne Park-based Universal Constructions has won an $8 million contract to build a new police station in Mundijong.

Universal will begin construction on the new station this month, while the current Mundijong station will continue operations until the new site opens around the end of next year.

Police Minister Liza Harvey said the new station would be able to cope with up to 30 years of growth in the region, and would accommodate about 30 officers.

“The particular site we have chosen for the station also allows us to conduct major modifications to further increase officer capacity in the decades to come,” she said.

An extra 14 officers could be accommodated at the new station if minor modifications were made in the future.

“The Liberal national government is committed to making our communities safer through tough laws and providing police with the resources they need to combat crime and anti-social behaviour,” Mrs Harvey said.
