Thomas Building has secured works at the $17 million Tambrey Shopping Centre - the first major retail development in Karratha in two decades - and been contracted to build the $6 million Kalgoorlie Renal Hostel.

Thomas Building will construct the main shopping centre for Tambrey.

Thomas Building has secured works at the $17 million Tambrey Shopping Centre - the first major retail development in Karratha in two decades - and been contracted to build the $6 million Kalgoorlie Renal Hostel.

Developer Cooksey Property Group announced that construction at the Tambrey Village Shopping Centre in Karratha began this week.

Tambrey is the first major retail venture in Karratha in two decades, and the development will include a Good Grocer/IGA Supermarket and liquor outlet, 777 Pharmacy and medical centre, Hungry Jack’s and a Liberty service station.

Bella Build & Design will build the first stage service station and fast food outlet, while Thomas Building will construct the main shopping centre.

The service station and fast food outlet are expected to be completed by April 2020 and the shopping centre later in the year prior to Christmas.

Leasing for the centre is being managed by ACTON Commercial and Cooksey Property Group with the centre now 95 per cent leased.

Also today, Thomas announced it secured a contract to build the Kalgoorlie Renal Hostel.

The 19-bed renal hostel has been designed by Iredale Pederson Hook Architects and construction consists of five accommodation blocks and three amenity blocks.

Dialysis it the leading cause of hospitalisation for Aboriginal people in the Goldfields, according to the WA Country Health Service.

Construction is expected to take around 12 months.

Thomas is headquartered in Osborne Park with a regional office in Karratha.

Thomas said it would recruit and employ local tradespeople and consultants to assist with the construction.

Alan Thomas established Thomas Building in 2010 after he and his partners in Rapley Wilkinson sold their stakes in the company to Nomad Building Solutions.

Historically, the builder has had a focus on the Pilbara.

Cooksey is based in Subiaco, while Bella Build & Design is headquarted in South Australia.
