TRAVEL TALK with
What is your favourite holiday destination?
Bali, in particular Seminyak. Only three hours away - completely stress free with fantastic restaurants and hotels.
Favourite place in WA to take a short break?
Dunsborough. Enjoy it in both winter and in summer and again, easy to get to.
Where's the best place in Perth to take out-of-towners?
Kings Park for the outstanding views, and Cocos for dinner - view does not get much better to impress visitors.
What has been your biggest travel disaster and what did you learn from it?
Many years ago, when I was travelling to Europe with a mate, we thought we were clever and tried to do it on the cheap and flew Royal Jordanian Airlines to London, but didn't factor in an 18-hour stopover in Amman airport, all just to save a few dollars. Lesson was truly learned.
What is your pet hate when travelling on airplanes?
Delays and bad service.
How often do you travel? Is it usually for business or pleasure?
About eight times a year, normally to Sydney and/or Melbourne for business. From a pleasure point of view, I try to get away overseas at least once a year and down south at least every six weeks.
What's always in your carry-on luggage?
My iPod, my Bose headphones and a good book.
Where have you always wanted to travel/holiday but haven't managed to yet?
Tuscany and the Greek Islands
What is your favourite overseas hotel?
I love staying at the Niksoma Hotel in Bali, which is just a small boutique hotel with great friendly service and then walking up the beach to Ku De Ta to have cocktails, watching the sun go down, and then dinner.
You wish Perth could be more like ...
Melbourne, from the point of view of having a precinct like Southbank with restaurants etc.
What was the last book you read?
I love reading autobiographies and have just finished reading Parky, Michael Parkinson's autobiography, which is a fascinating read.
What CD is currently in your car?
CDs are you kidding? I only listen to 96fm or 6PR. On a serious note, I have been in a mellow mood lately and listened to Simply Red's Greatest Hits.
What WA/Perth restaurant do you keep going back to?
Cocos. I love the consistency of the place and whether its lunch or dinner, always a great atmosphere; and Ian Love and his staff are always first class.
