Tech firms Today We Learned, Circadyn and FreeWheeler have been named the RAC of WA SeedSpark winners at an awards night last week, and have each received a cash prize to fund their projects.
Today We Learned achieved the top prize of $25,000 at the awards night, held at the RAC head office last Thursday, for its website and app which teachers can use to “update 60 parents in 5 minutes” on what their children learned during a typical school day.
Circadyn was awarded $15,000 for its innovative app-based software which analyses information collected from wearable technology to assess and improve sleeping patterns.
FreeWheeler was awarded $2,500 to fund its app, website and database system which offers ‘flybuy-like’ incentives to commuters when they change their commuting behaviour for the benefit of society.
The RAC SeedSpark program was formed through the collaboration between RAC and Spacecubed, who became the first organisations in Perth to fund a ‘tech accelerator’ to help fund companies in the cash-starved start-up sector.
The program has been designed to provide some financial stability for start-up companies, which RAC hopes will allow some founders and teams to quit their day jobs and make the leap into entrepreneurship, while also gaining advice from people who have been there and done it in the start-up space.
“RAC looks forward to working with Today We Learned leveraging our brand and also extensive relationships through our road safety education programs,” RAC said.
