Accounting firm BDO has appointed Perth-based chairman Sherif Andrawes as its global natural resources leader, replacing Charles Dewhurst from the company’s US arm, after 12 years in the role.

Mr Andrawes will remain as chairman of the Western Australian division of the business, a role he has held since 2009, and will step into his new position later this month.

Mr Andrawes is a member of the board of BDO Australia and is also the national leader of BDO Australia’s natural resources group.

He has been with the company since 1987, originally in London before moving to Perth in 1997.

BDO Australia chairman Helen Argiris said Mr Andrawes would provide valuable insights in the role.

“With this appointment, Sherif will be responsible for BDO’s natural resources industry sector which is one of BDO’s most prominent, successful and growing industry sectors globally,” she said

“Australian clients will benefit further from Sherif’s local knowledge, as well as global insights and increased global network reach. We wish Sherif every success with this important role.”

Mr Andrawes said it was an exciting time to be working in the natural resources sector.

"I’m looking forward to continuing to work closely with my colleagues globally, to share ideas and further build on the strength of our capabilities that address the issues and emerging challenges our clients are facing,” he said.
