Singapore owner The Straits Trading Company has decided Observation City will continue to trade as a hotel in the medium-term, notwithstanding the outcome of the Development Application process, which is expected next month.
"Due to the current economic climate, it is not an ideal time to launch a luxury apartment project of this scale," said President of The Straits Trading Company, Norman Ip.

Rendezvous Hotels and Resorts International (RHI) has announced that the iconic Rendezvous Observation City Hotel Perth will continue to trade as a hotel into the foreseeable future, postponing plans to develop a large scale luxury apartment redevelopment project.
The Straits Trading Company Ltd., the owner of Rendezvous Observation City, has decided to resume trading as a hotel in the medium term notwithstanding the outcome of the Development Application process, which is expected in April
"Due to the current economic climate, it is not an ideal time to launch a luxury apartment project of this scale," said Norman Ip, President of The Straits Trading Company. "We are pleased to announce that this iconic Hotel is to carry on business as usual, with conferences, events, business and leisure travel bookings all being accepted for future travel dates."
Commenting on the announcement, RHI Chief Executive Officer Alan Featherby said: "We are delighted to continue to manage one of Perth's most famous and iconic hotels and we would like to thank the people of Western Australia and the travel industry for their support over many years, especially during the recent uncertainty about the Hotel's future.
"In the past twenty years, the Hotel has hosted thousands of meetings and events and several million people have stayed there. With its status as a Hotel now secure, we look forward to a bright future and to continuing to help promote WA tourism," added Mr. Featherby.
