Water Corporation chief executive Jim Gill will be awarded the highest honour from the International Water Association in Vienna next month for his 20-year contribution to water sustainability and strategy. Dr Gill has been recognised for his water management skills and vision by the IWA in its grand award. The independent Australian Water Association nominated Dr Gill for the award, describing him as “a world leader”. “Australians have had to confront the delivery of water solutions in a harsh and highly variable climate. This has bred innovative and sophisticated responses across the water sector, of which Jim and the Water Corporation in Western Australia are exemplars,” AWA chief executive Tom Mollenkopf said. The award follows Dr Gill’s recognition in 2006 as the Australian Civil Engineer of the Year for his role in leading drought response. Dr Gill will retire from the Water Corporation at the end of the year.
