Belmont-based NRW Holdings has secured a contract with Fitzroy Australia Resources for work at the Ironbark No. 1 coal mine in Queensland.

Belmont-based NRW Holdings has secured a contract with Fitzroy Australia Resources for work at the Ironbark No. 1 coal mine in Queensland.

Under the early contractor involvement contract, NRW will provide design, costing and project scheduling for the civil and mining services required to develop the mine.

Construction will begin in the second quarter of 2019 if Fitzroy proceeds with NRW subsidiary Golding Contractors.

The infrastructure associated with the contract includes the bulk excavation and stabilisation of the box cut, installation of portals, haul roads, site access roads, dams and associated civil infrastructure.

The award follows NRW’s completion of a 12-month contract at Fitzroy’s Broadlea mining project last month.

NRW chief executive Jules Pemberton said the company was pleased to continue its relationship with Fitzroy.

“This project is a clear example of the strong service offering that NRW can bring to our clients on the east coast through Golding’s synergies in mining and civil,” he said.

“It demonstrates our ability to provide a genuinely integrated solution by combining our capabilities in mine planning, coal mine operation, civil design management, and construction of mine-site civil infrastructure.”

Fitzroy chief executive Grant Polwarth said the agreement marked an important milestone.

“This agreement with Golding is an important step toward construction and ultimately realising our vision for a modern and innovative Ironbark No. 1 coal mine,” he said.

“The agreement follows the safe, efficient and highly successful Broadlea mining project and is a natural extension of the growing partnership between Fitzroy and Golding.”

NRW shares finished won 0.27 per cent at $1.82 each today.
