Mustang Resources has appointed Richland Resources chief executive Bernard Olivier as its new managing director, while director Cobus Van Wyk will become chief operating officer.

Former managing director Christiaan Jordaan resigned in November last year, citing personal reasons.

Mr Jordaan resigned two weeks after a disappointing auction for the company’s rubies in Mauritius led to a significant decline in Mustang’s share price.

Mr Olivier has worked as chief executive at Richland, formerly Tanzanite One, since 2010 and will begin at Mustang in March.

Chairman Ian Draymond welcomed the announcement.

“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Bernard Olivier as MD and Cobus Van Wyk as COO,” Mr Draymond said

“Bernard brings significant experience in all aspects of coloured gemstone mining, marketing and sales and was a key person in the development of the Tanzanite One coloured gemstone mining operation in Tanzania, where he managed a team of over 600 employees.”

Mr Olivier said he was looking forward to taking on the new role.

“I believe Mustang has world-class assets and look forward to progressing the ruby and graphite projects with the rest of the highly skilled and dedicated board and management team at Mustang," he said.
