Monadelphous wins $240m BHP contract

Engineering companies Monadelphous Group and Downer EDI have announced separate maintenance contracts with iron ore miner BHP Billiton.

Monadelphous said it had been awarded a contract for the provision of general maintenance services for shutdowns, outages and minor capital works worth about $240 million over a three-year period.

The contract, which contains an additional two one-year extension options, is for BHP’s Mt Whaleback, Jimblebar, Eastern Ridge, Mining Area C and Yandi mine sites.

Monadelphous managing director Rob Velletri said the contract continued to build on the company’s longstanding relationship with BHP.

“The award of this contract is a testament to our reputation for delivering customer-focused engineering solutions and maintaining a high standard of safety and quality,” he said.

“We look forward to further developing our relationship with BHP over coming years, growing our operational footprint in the Pilbara and continuing to strengthen our long-term commitment to the region and the communities in which we operate.”

Meanwhile, Downer said it had won a three-year contract with BHP for general maintenance services at its Port Hedland export operations across the Finucane Island and Nelson Point facilities, but did not disclose the expected value.

This will include mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilating and air conditioning , minor civils, rope access services and integration with the BHP maintenance team in planning and executing the services.

Downer chief executive Grant Fenn said the contract was a testament to the company’s capabilities.
