THE Federal Government’s E-commerce Expert Group will review consumer protection issues in relation to the increased use of m-commerce (mobile commerce) by businesses. According to Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, Senator Ian Campbell, while m-commerce is in its infancy in Australia there are several issues for consumers that could emerge.
“Consumers will be able to access bank accounts and pay bills, trade on the stock exchange, buy tickets to the football or movies and so on (using mobile technology),” Senator Campbell said.
“What we have to address are consumer protection issues that will emerge from these developments. There are bound to be new marketing and selling techniques, which will leave consumers vulnerable. Getting in front of these issues is a priority for the expert group.”
