It’s an ill wind

UBS Warburg has sent a note to clients spotlighting the flip side of the subterranean Australian dollar.

UBS lists 24 companies with offshore earnings to boost their bottom lines.

They have hung buy tags on half of these, including Simsmetal, which derives 90 per cent of its profits from foreign parts, Burn’s Philp (73 per cent), QBE (64 per cent) Amcor (43 per cent) and Southcorp (30 per cent).

Others worth a look are Lend Lease, getting cheaper every day, and Brambles. Some of the share picks double as possible takeover candidates.
