Empired wins $15m job

Perth-based IT firm Empired has won a contract to provide managed services to a Singapore-headquartered oil and gas company, in a deal worth $15 million.

Under the terms of the deal, Empried will provide managed infrastructure and application support service for all of InterOil Corporation’s information technology systems including communications, finance and corporate systems, as well as exploration and production systems.

The contract is for an initial three-year term, with a further two-year option.

Transition services have commenced, with Empired establishing office facilities and hiring resources in Singapore.

Managing director Russell Baskerville said the contract would provide the company with a range of growth opportunities.

“We will enhance our oil and gas expertise through the opportunities InterOil will provide us as they continue the development of their core assets,” he said.

“It will also provide us a low cost, low risk platform to launch our services into the Asian region.”

InterOil is an independent oil and gas business with a primary focus in Papua New Guinea.

Its assets include the Elk-Antelope in the Gulf Province, and exploration licences covering about 16,000 square kilometres.

Empired was recently awarded a similar contract with Rio Tinto under a $20 million deal over a five-year term.

Shares in Empired were unchanged at 81 cents at 9:45am.
