TWO of the state's most recognisable brands have awarded media and creative contracts to agencies in Perth and in Sydney.

Burswood Entertainment Complex has appointed Subiaco-based Gatecrasher as its new creative agency, while Sydney-based creative agency Host has secured the strategic planning contract for BankWest and Ikon Communications handling the bank's media buying duties.

Gatecrasher will take over the $4 million account and one of Western Australia's key advertising clients from The Brand Agency.

The reverse occurred in October last year when Gatecrasher lost the Curtin University account to The Brand Agency.

A BankWest spokesperson said Host won the $18 million media contract from Starcom MediaVest, which also had responsibility for media buying.

Host has been working with BankWest for around 12 months in the creative side, helping to launch its "Happy Banking" campaign last year, the spokesperson said.

Gatecrasher managing director Tony Scampoli said Burswood was a significant contract.

"We had an interesting year last year with the unfortunate loss of another account in Curtin University, which was a blow at the time, but also we had a significant win with Bedshed national retailing group," Mr Scampoli said.

"Burswood puts a bit of the icing on the cake for us. It's in excess of $4 million dollars and the reason it's significant for us is not just from a financial perspective.

"Burswood is a pretty well-recognised as a major blue chip brand and it performs pretty well each year in WA Business News' brand ranking feature."
