Local builders Pindan and Pact Construction have won contracts with the state government, worth a combined $23.1 million.

Pindan was today named the successful tenderer for a $11.1 million contract for the construction of the new Health and Allied Services Training Centre at Pilbara Institute’s Pundulmurra campus.

The new centre will replace outdated facilities and will allow the expansion and amalgamation of nursing, aged care, child care, community and allied health services.

The new facility has been valued at $15.7 million, with the majority of the cost covered by the state government’s Royalties for Regions program.

Department of Training & Workforce Development Minister Liza Harvey said the facility would provide quality training to address a shortage of trained healthcare and community service workers in the Pilbara.

“This new industry standard training facility will allow Pilbara Institute to double its capacity to train students,, catering for the training needs of the local community and the diverse workforce development needs of the region,” Ms Harvey said.

The new facility will include several multi-purpose training rooms, computer stations, staff and student facilities, and simulated clinical environments.

It is expected to be completed by early 2017.

Meanwhile, Pact has won a $12 million contract for the second stage of redevelopment at Willetton Senior High School.

The works, due for completion in 2017, include construction of a new English and mathematics department, a medical centre and an enclosed eating area adjoining a cafeteria.

It follows completion of the first stage of the school’s redevelopment, which was carried out by Cockram Construction (formerly Esslemont Cockram).
