What? ~ The Welcome to Country app delivers a simple welcome to country video introduction to visitors on Australian indigenous culture by a local traditional owner or elder, including basic cultural protocols that are tribal-boundary geo-specific.

The app was developed as part of Weerianna Street Media’s Digital Dreamtime Project and is supported by Woodside Petroleum and the federal government.

Where ? ~ Download for free from iTunes: https://goo.gl/JsK02u

Website: http://www.welcometocountry.mobi

Who ? ~ Developed by Tyson Mowarin (creative director/founder), Weerianna Street Media (Roebourne), Robyn Marais (producer), Simon te Brinke (digital strategist, Gramercy Park Consulting), and Adam Dunne, technical lead, Aura Interactive).

Quotations ~ I wanted to create an extension of the traditional welcome to country, which is a custom that dates back even before (white) settlement. This application is only designed to complement the real thing -Tyson Mowarin

$ ~ The company is seeking commercial sponsorship or partnership opportunities for ongoing development and the production of an Android version; with additional plans for major airlines to use the app’s videos on incoming flights.

Market ~ The company would like to appeal to tribal groups right across Australia and encourage them to make contact. Currently, the app contains more than 30 tribes and languages of 500-plus groups.

The Welcome to Country app was released on July 31 2015.
