Today We Learned ~ ‘Start better learning conversations’
When parents ask their school-aged children ‘How was school today?’ they may expect nothing much more than a grunted reply. Research shows that parental involvement in education improves learning outcomes more than homework. Today We Learned allows teachers to send specific 60-second updates to parents so they can start better conversations with their children. It closes the loop between the school, the student and the home.
Schools can sign up for free at www.todaywelearned.co; mobile apps are coming to App stores soon.
"We spent a lot of time talking with teachers and reading the research, trying to make sure that this is something that would be easy and fast for teachers to use, and have a positive impact on the child's education.” – Jason O'Neil
The company received $25,000 in initial seed funding from the RAC Seedspark Startup Accelerator in 2014. An ongoing partnership with RAC is currently being negotiated with the aim of bringing the service to more WA schools.
There are 3.7 million students in Australia, and the company has pilot programs running in various primary and secondary, both private and public. Schools in North America have also shown interest.
Together with former App/Tech businesses of the week Virtualiis and Tap into Safety, Today We Learned is a finalist in the 2015 WAITTA INCITE Awards startup category. The winner will be announced on 19th June.
