Edgar Basto

Edgar Basto became BHP Billiton's Asset President, WA Iron Ore in March 2016 after previously serving as Vice President, Production Mines, Western Australian Iron Ore in 2015. The promotion made him the most senior executive for BHP in Western Australia. He had served as the Acting President, Copper at BHP from October 01, 2014 to March 2015. Mr Basto has a Metallurgical Engineering degree from the Industrial University of Santander, Colombia and joined BHP in 1989. Since then he has held a number of roles in Cerro Matoso, Cerrejón and Tintaya. Between 2006 and 2014, Edgar was Vice President, Group Health Safety Environment and Community (HSEC) and Sustainability and Chief Operating Officer; Vice President, Operations at Base Metals; and Asset President Escondida.
