Two Western Australian not-for-profit organisations have formed a partnership to fight infectious lung diseases, with $100,000 already being awarded to WA scientists for projects that address diseases like pneumonia.
Disability employment organisation Westcare signed on to supporting the grants scheme along with the Lung Institute of WA.
Last week the partnership awarded a $50,000 grant to professor Peter Richmond, from the Vaccine Trials Group at the University of WA. In what is believed to be a unique approach to managing money donated for research, every second year researchers external to the institute can apply for the grant.
