Electric vehicle conversion company Tembo, a subsidiary of VivoPower, signed a definitive distribution deal with Ulti-Mech to convert at least 1,000 4WD’s into electric cars over the span of five-years in WA.
The deal comes after Tembo announced a proposed agreement with GB Auto in 2020 to purchase its electric conversion kits over a period of seven years.
At the time it was reported to be an exclusive disruption agreement for GB Auto to supply Tembo's electric Toyota Land Cruiser, electric Toyota Hilux, and Tembo electric vehicle conversion kits in Australia.
Tempo - which operates in the Netherlands, Dubai and Sydney - has converted the longest serving electrified utility vehicle in active service.
The electrified Toyota Landcruiser has been operating in an Irish underground mine for the past five years, according to the company.
Under the circa $110 million deal, Ulti-Mech will acquire the pre-converted vehicles, covert them to electric cars using Tembo’s conversion kits, sell the cars and then provide after-sale servicing and maintenance.
Ulti-Mech has agreed to sell a minimum of 1,000 Tembo electric vehicle conversion kits over the next five year across the state.
The WA company provides specialised mining and 4WD automotive services and has offices in Newman, Port Hedland and Gosnells, with plans to expand to Tom Price and Karratha.
Ulti-Mech managing director John Adams said he was thrilled to enter a partnership with Tembo.
“With three locations in the heart of Western Australia’s mining market, we are perfectly placed to successfully supply and service the Tembo electric utility vehicle,” he said.
“With increased pressure for mining companies to start their net-zero journey, the Tembo solution is a significant step in that direction.”
Tembo director Gary Challinor said they were delighted to enter the partnership with a key provider to the largest blue chip mining companies in WA.
“It is a local leader in mine spec and 4WD automotive services and an Authorised Inspection Station service provider for the Department of Transport of Western Australia,” he said.
“We look forward to having Tembo trained engineers posted in Western Australia, to support Ulti-Mech and its team in electrifying and servicing light utility vehicle fleets for its customers so that they may achieve their net zero objectives.”
