Trading hours will be extended for retail shops in the metropolitan area on Easter Monday and Anzac Day.
All general retail shops in the Perth metropolitan area will be allowed to open from 8am until 6pm on the two public holidays to provide more flexibility for retailers who were previously only allowed to open between 11am to 5pm, Commerce Minister Michael Mischin said.
“As always, it will not be compulsory to open and close at these times, however it will give retailers the choice and ability to better cater for the demands of their customers,” he said.
Mr Mischin said standard hours would apply to Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday, with metropolitan retail shops remaining closed on Good Friday.
“The government has been at the forefront of retail trading hours’ reform with the introduction of late night weekday and Sunday trading which have proven to be popular with consumers and successful for businesses,” he said.
“The balance is now about right and there will be no radical changes in this term of government.”
However, Mr Mischin said he was working on legislation to fix an issue of hardware stores selling particular goods.
