The state government has announced that it will fund the planning and operation of a Perth Children's Hospice, to be built at Swanbourne.
The Perth Children's Hospital Foundation has been raising funds to build the facility, which will provide respite and care for children and their families. Premier Mark McGowan has now called on business to help.
The hospice will be modelled on Bear Cottage in NSW, and is designed to be a home away from home for children with life-limiting conditions.
The PCH Foundation has previously stated it wanted a six-bed facility with adjoining family rooms. Every child's room should be fitted with a hospital bed and facilities.
Mr McGowan made the announcement that the state government would fund the planning stages for the facility, and the operational costs, at the Western Australian of the Year Awards function this evening.
